I could be the king of diamonds and you could be my queen of hearts and maybe we’ll get dealt together by the same deck of cards. and maybe we’ll get held together and form a winning hand or maybe we lose the draw and never see each other again there’s only so much time and there’s only so much left for you and I But if we could catch an ace Well, we could make jack pay and if we could find a ten somewhere then darlin we’d be straight but if we get the three of clubs or the six of spades, well, that’ll be the end of us and well get thrown away there’s only so much time and there’s only so much left for you and I And there’s nothing we can do but leave it up to chance and maybe well get lucky and it’ll work out like we planned cause theres 50 cards between us but man, they feel like 50 states and I know you’re out there somewhere it just feels so far away there’s only so much time and there’s only so much left for you and I I could be the king of diamonds and you could be my queen of hearts and maybe well get dealt together by the same deck of cards

You're tossing and turning just watching the world go round as the leaves change colors in other towns and you're lying with the tv on just dreaming about stars counting down the minutes and the hours 'til you can make a run for it 'til you can break free from all this shit these temporary people living temporary lives in a land of paper heroes with nothing on the inside and you say you don't believe in hope but I can see it in your eyes and you're waiting for the leaves to change sun so hot upon your face trying to put yourself back together now that everything's been misplaced but the leaves don't change color here you've known that all along you're just killing time, my dear 'til you can make a run for it 'til you can break free from all this shit all these temporary people living temporary lives in a land of paper heroes with nothing on the inside you say you don't believe in hope but I can see it in your eyes You take one step forward and one step back you've worn a hole through the floorboards just living your life like that and those bricks wont change color and that lamp won't rise or set you've got a heart full of memories that you don't want to forget no no now no no no now you're staring out the window just watching passing cars dreaming away the minutes and the hours 'till you can make a run for it 'till you can break free from all this shit these temporary people living temporary lives in a land of paper heroes with nothing on the inside and you say you don't believe in hope but i can see it in your eyes and maybe we'll make it out of here yeah we'll just have to see and you say there's nothing to believe but please believe in me and i swear i'll do the best I can if you'll just let me try and I promise if you take my hand it'll be alright I said I promise if you take my hand well it'll be alright

Bedrooms dark and I'm alone and I don't know where you've gone to I'm telling stories in my head of all the things we've gone through While you're waiting in your car behind some downtown nightspot for someone you don't even know who doesn't care about you and there's no feeling in your heart but I can feel it all now you say it's all going to fast so then lets slow it all down just slow it all down and you set me adrift like a boat out in the ocean and I don't know where I've been and I don't know where I'm going they say all's fair in love and war but now I'm caught between everything I dreamed and everything you hoped for but you can't help yourself no, you just need someone else to show you something about yourself that you don't already know something I can't show you well stop chasing broken dreams cause you're meant for better things living life and loving free and that's all I want for you and that's the God damn truth I just hope someday you can see it and I'm not stupid or naive I know the truth in everything you think that I believe there's love and war inside your heart there's love and war inside you it all comes down we all come down it all comes down we all come down stop chasing broken dreams cause you're meant for better things living life and loving free and that's all I want for you and that's the God damn truth I just hope someday you can see it

Well it’s been said that the soil can heal you that all you have to do is hold it near you and people come from miles away to wait in line, around the block, for a chance to pray pictures pinned to the banner of the virgin they’re here for help, but nothing’s certain crucifix on the crutches against the wall left there in hope in New Mexico They’ve come for miles through the sand along the side of the road just to place their hands in the dirt at Santuario De Chimayo They scoop the earth in little bags to take it with them in hopes of bringing healing back for their parents and children and how great would it be to have God’s grace in a pouch? hung up on the wall inside of your house Some come seeking blessings others fulfill a vow past the shrine on the hilltop outside of town in front of the cross and under the arch with all the other pilgrims out in the yards they’ve come for miles through the sand along the side of the road just to place their hands in the dirt at Santuario De Chimayo and it’s been said that the soil can heal you that all you have to do is hold it near you

Its like your shoes don't fit you when you look down you see someone else's feet taking the steps you used to take and as confusing as it seems you know this is who you used to be but thats not who you are you just can't shake it loose thats not what youre used to doing you're always sitting still and just going through the motions going through the motions and you're more aware then you ever were before that theres nothing here for you anymore if you let em man they'll take everything you love away till your pretty eyes go pale and all the lights fade away and your nothing but a white winter heart in a tweed coat on a street side late at night and you lose yourself for good just like they always said you would and you don't want the second verse to end the same way as the first but it's hard to see yourself through someone else's eyes and you still remember exactly how it felt on the inside cause you wanted to change the world but the world changed you and you swore you'd never let go but you've got nothing to hold onto and it all come down around you and you're more aware then you ever were before that theres nothing here for you anymore if you let em man they'll take everything you love away till your pretty eyes go pale and all the lights fade away and your nothing but a white winter heart in a tweed coat on a street side late at night and you lose yourself for good just like they always said you would and your nothing but a white winter heart in a tweed coat on a street side late at night and you lose yourself for good just like they always said you would
